Community, or feral, cats have different needs than the ones we seek to help through adoption. They are essentially wild animals that are self-sufficient and live long, healthy lives. They are happy outdoors and most would not enjoy the lifestyle that domesticated house cats lead.
KAT Charities Animal Rescue seeks to stabilize the community cat population on Oahu through TNR [Trap, Neuter, Return], prevent euthanasia of healthy animals, and help educate the best ways to live alongside these animals.

The TNR approach humanely traps (with box traps) community cats, brings them to a veterinarian to be spayed or neutered, vaccinated, ear notched (the universal sign that a cat has been neutered and vaccinated), and then returned to their outdoor home. It is a humane approach to preventing community cats from having countless litters of kittens, which flood shelters and rescues past our capacity to save them all.
